3 days of family cycling from Rochefort: the slow adventure that (almost) runs itself.

Cycling with the wind in your hair, lungs full of fresh air, and a few biscuits crumbling in your pocket, it's like a childhood dream. With easy routes and diverse landscapes, you'll find yourselves far from the hustle and bustle of cars, creating memorable family moments. Gather your tribe and hop on your bikes, destination Rochefort!

With over 2100km of marked routes and a network of 450 junction points, the Province of Namur offers a wide range of possible itineraries. You build your route like a construction game: you choose one number, then another, and another... and just like that, your ride takes shape according to your desires.

Ice cream break, picnic by the water, a small heritage detour, a night under the stars, or a relaxed train ride back? Anything is possible. And most importantly, here, you cycle at a family-friendly pace, without pressure. Because on holiday, the goal isn't to rack up kilometers but to collect memories.

Why choose junction points when traveling with family?

If you've never tried the junction point system, get ready to embrace the concept. The principle is super simple: instead of following a route name that can sometimes be hard to pronounce, you just note down a sequence of numbers. By following the signs, all you have to do is follow the next number. Even your children will play co-pilot: "Dad, after 50, it's 12!"... and just like that, a co-pilot is officially promoted to navigation manager.

The big advantage of junction points? Freedom. Feeling generally tired and needing a Plan B because little legs are getting worn out? Improvisation is entirely possible thanks to the flexibility of the junction points.

Around Rochefort, the network combines peaceful small roads, country paths, RAVeL sections, and picturesque villages. In short, everything we love for a child-friendly trip.

Here's an easy-going itinerary idea, designed for families (between 15 and 20km per day). A perfect micro-adventure for a long weekend: few kilometers, plenty of breaks, and an easy arrival at Rochefort-Jemelle station or the town center.

Total distance: approx. 55km

KM/day: between 15 and 20km

Level: Easy to intermediate

DAY 1: Rochefort > Villers-sur-Lesse 12km

Starting from Rochefort 150 - 151 - 153 - 35 - 36 - 37 - 38 - 39

This first day is intentionally gentle. The goal isn't to break a record but to get into the rhythm of the trip. You'll quietly leave Rochefort station before reaching its peaceful villages. Here, the landscapes alternate between forests and meadows. Of course, a stop in the town center is essential to discover the region. Whether it's a short meal break or a heritage discovery, you have plenty of choices here.

The classic activity for this day is the RAVeL route towards Houyet. At the arrival point, you can proudly admire Ciergnon Castle on its promontory. Then, head to your first accommodation in Villers-sur-Lesse.

Don't miss:

- Picnic in a shaded spot

- Observe the river and Ciergnon Castle

Option for tired little legs:

- The City Tour allows you to rest your group and your legs: in 50 minutes, discover the essentials of Rochefort.

- Breaks are easy along the Ravel.

DAY 2: Villers-sur-Lesse > Han-sur-Lesse > Resteigne 17 km

Starting from Villers-sur-Lesse: 39 – 38 – 170 – 171-172 – 159 – 158- 159- 157 – 11 – 9 -80

We leave this charming little village for the Lesse valley. After counting cows and passing through the pretty villages of Eprave and Lessive, you'll reach the unmissable village of Han-sur-Lesse. The Han Caves Domain is certainly worth a stop. However, if the idea isn't necessarily to visit the entire domain by bike with children already overexcited by the adventure, the village itself is perfect for a waffle, ice cream, or playground break.

Then head to the charming village of Resteigne for a sweet and peaceful night.

DAY 3: Resteigne > Jemelle 17km

Starting from Resteigne: 80 – 82 – 12 – 13 – 155 –154 -151 – 150 or 35 to finish in the town center.

Last day, no pressure. You'll gently complete your journey either towards Rochefort-Jemelle train station or the town center, with that very satisfying little pleasure: returning to where the adventure began. And that's where everyone recounts their favorite moment of the trip. Well, there's a good chance your child will answer: "Ice cream!"
